Chew Stoke Bowling Club
Isle of Wedmore
Friendly - Sunday 8 June
A fairly pleasant but sometimes blustery afternoon greeted our visitors from the Isle of Wedmore.
As ever we received plenty of complements regarding the state of the green which was obviously to our opponents liking as they ran out fairly comprehensive winners by 107 shots to 55.
They won on all five rinks although we ran them very close on two of the rinks, only losing by two shots on each.

Refreshments were provided by the members and once again, although we may not win many games, our hospitality is second to none.
Particular mention should go to Christine's sausage rolls and Celia's cakes.
At least we won the raffle by two prizes to one.
Once again we had several fairly new members playing, with two playing their first game for the club, but gaining valuable experience all the time.

Prattens
Friendly - Sunday 25 May
Despite an ever changing weather forecast our friendly away to Prattens in Midsomer Norton went ahead as planned.
Once it had made up it's mind, the day was sunny albeit with quite a strong wind, which was enough to blow our bowls off course.........or so we claimed.

There was a bit of confusion at the beginning where Prattens thought we were playing triples and Chew Stoke thought it was a team of four.
Eventually it was agreed on triples with Chew Stoke allowed to make a substitution after nine ends to give everybody a game.
Perhaps tactical substitutions could become a part of the game......along with million pound salaries.
The green was "interesting" to bowl on and was fairly quick compared to our own green with some deliveries seeming to almost grind to a halt before carrying on that extra yard.
As ever the game was competitive but friendly with a fairly close result on all rinks.
Chew Stoke eventually came out winners by 3 rinks to 1 and a total of 64 shots to 54.

Congratulations to Charlie, our youngest member, and part of a winning rink on debut.

Kingswood and Hanham
Friendly - Sunday 27 April
Perfect weather on a perfect day for bowling...... and a near perfect result for Chew Stoke

On Sunday, Chew Stoke Bowling Club welcomed their visitors from the Kingswood and Hanham Club.
Sunday lunch was also provided for those wishing to partake with teas, coffees and something more alcoholic also on the menu.
After a welcome from our club captain, Jamie Smart, proceedings got underway at 2.30.
In a relaxed and friendly but still competitive game Chew Stoke won on three rinks, lost on two and won the match overall by 79 to 73.

Refreshments were laid on in the clubhouse afterwards with the traditional raffle - who did get the Limoncello?
One or seven members (who shall remain nameless.....for now) enjoyed the comforts of the clubhouse well into the evening.
